Important changes to Medicare Advance Beneficiary Notice of Non-Coverage (ABN) take effect March 1, 2009
Effective March 3, 2009, Medicare will be requiring new ABN forms. The current forms will no longer be valid.
A Medicare Advance Beneficiary Notice of Non-Coverage (ABN) form is used by providers, physicians, practitioners and suppliers in all cases where Medicare payment is expected to be denied for services to be provided. It is important to note that all providers must present and explain the ABN to patients well prior to when the procedure or service is to take place, allowing the patient to ask questions and review their options in order to make an informed decision.
