Still Sending Paper to PhyLogic? Here are some other options.
Are you one of the practices still sending paper charge slips and other documentation to PhyLogic? If the answer is “yes”, there are some popular options which can make things more efficient for your practice.
Scanning
Many practices are keeping their same internal processes for charge capture (ie. Paper charge slips / superbills), but are now scanning these documents to PhyLogic. Many offices already have copier / printers which have sheet-fed scanning capabilities built into the unit. Many of these devices can be very successfully used to scan and transmit data to PhyLogic in a fast and efficient manner.
How it works: Rather than mailing or FedEx’ing paper batches of either charges or payments to PhyLogic, these very same batches can be scanned at the office location. The office then sends them electronically to a secure client-specific address provided by PhyLogic.
The Benefits: Since there is no time lost in the mail, perhaps the greatest benefit to scanning is that it reduces the time it takes to generate and submit an insurance claim. Furthermore, scanning can be completed in about the same time as it takes to copy the papers in a batch, but does not create more paper (and is therefore more eco-friendly). Also, since an image of the documentation is created and can be stored, the need to file and maintain excessive paper records is eliminated. Finally, scanning also saves on postage costs.
Online Charge Slips
Online charge slips are a function of PhyLogic’s AdvancedMD system which eliminates the need for paper charge slips or superbills. An online charge slip is developed by PhyLogic’s Technical Operations Department specifically for each practice or physician and is generally based off of the current paper superbill or chargeslip.
How it works: The provider uses a tabletPC or similar to simply check off the correct procedure and diagnosis codes. The system looks similar to a paper charge slip, but is simply displayed on a touchable computer screen. This data is then transmitted to PhyLogic in real-time for review, processing and billing.
The Benefits: Online charge slips eliminate all paper printing, batching, and transmitting processes as it relates to superbills and charge transfer. Data is instantly available to PhyLogic for processing - increasing efficiency and eliminating delays.
Electronic Medical Records
PhyLogic interfaces or integrates with many EMR systems on the market today. (We can even make some recommendations if you would like.) Transferring to EMR technology is a big change for any practice, but does have numerous benefits from a reimbursement standpoint.
In many instances, the practice can continue to utilize the PhyLogic AdvancedMD appointment scheduler. This then drives patient flow within the integrated EMR system. Once the patient is seen, charge data is transmitted from the EMR system directly to the AdvancedMD system at which point it is reviewed, processed and billed accordingly.
Utilizing an EMR can be extremely efficient from many perspectives, but the decision cannot be entered into lightly, and requires multiple levels of dedication to function properly and efficiently for the long term.
