PhyLogic has become aware of a sporadic issue with various Medicare Contractors across the country in which provider and group NPI numbers are being erroneously deleted from some provider profiles. This issue only appears to be affecting a small percentage of providers and seems to be occurring when the Medicare contractor is performing an update with the National Plan & Provider Enumeration System (NPPES).
It should be noted that this is not an issue specific to PhyLogic or PhyLogic clients, but appears to be rather random in nature, likely due to a bug in the NPPES or Medicare contractor software. PhyLogic is monitoring this situation closely and will advise any known affected provider.
According to our research with Medicare representatives, the solution to this issue is for all providers to ensure that they have listed their old Medicare ID# (PTAN) under their NPI profile with NPPES. Even unaffected providers should review their profile and ensure this information is present. If your PTAN is not present, providers should log into the NPPES system using the same user name and password used when they registered for their NPI.
To perform this, go to:
https://nppes.cms.hhs.gov/NPPES/StaticForward.do?forward=static.npistart
(you may click on this hyperlink. If this does not work, simply cut and paste the link into the address bar of your browser).
On the 4 th screen will be a section to add “other identification numbers”. Select MEDICARE PIN and enter your PTAN.
If you have any questions regarding this issue, please contact your Billing Team Supervisor at PhyLogic who will be glad to assist you.
