PhyLogic’s Charity Cycling Team, while battered from a tough season of rides and races, has one final event to raise much needed funds for the Home to Home Foundation. The ride will take place Sunday, October 5, 2008, and will depart the hills of northeastern Connecticut, through the Connecticut River Valley and then onto a final destination at the shoreline.
This event marks the last charity ride for the 2008 Team PhyLogic Charity Cycling Team - and it could not be for a better cause! The Home to Home Foundation was created to help residents in long-term care facilities. Residents in long term care facilities often lose touch with the world outside of the institution in which they reside.
The Home-to-Home Foundation finds special events that will appeal to residents, and with time, positively influence residents’ life skills through renewed spirit. The Home to Home Foundation is a non-profit organization established to enhance the quality of life for residents in long-term care facilities by providing increased human contact and social activities through volunteer programs. As the population of Connecticut ages, more and more of its residents are spending longer periods of time in nursing facilities. Dr. Richard Silverman, a pulmonologist and founder of the Foundation realized, while working in area nursing facilities, that the first budget cuts always affect the recreation department. Dr. Silverman has made a commitment to finding areas of interest to these residents and providing them with personalized sources of stimulation. His vision is accomplished through volunteers who visit nursing homes on a regular basis and through donations of recreational supplies.
The ride was originally planned as a 100 Mile ride (or “century”), but had to be reduced to 100K because of several injuries to team members as our competition and charity schedule comes to an end this season. We appreciate your understanding and know it will not affect your kind generosity for a great organization.
It should be noted that any amount given to this fine cause is greatly appreciated. To make a secure online donation, please click on the following link: http://www.firstgiving.com/hometohome
